I haven't included silvers in this but it should be remembered that silver is a dominant gene, so if one of the parents are silver, then silver kittens can result from a mating. Usual is genetically 'black' so 'usual silver' becomes 'black silver'. Dilute is recessive (needs to be carried by both parents). The colours covered here are the basic colours, Usual (dilute of Usual is Blue), Chocolate (dilute of Chocolate is Lilac) and Sorrel (dilute of Sorrel is Fawn). Where a Usual cat is mated to say a Blue, then for Blue offspring to be produced the Usual will need to carry dilute. This chart can be used for other breeds as well, but the names of the colours might be different - i.e. Usual could be called Brown, or Tawny, and Sorrel could be Cinnamon etc. Thank you to Sally Plummer for going over this chart for me when I was losing the plot from keep checking it:-))))
