Jessica's Kittens

Diary

The birth went very well and Jessica popped the kittens out like shelling peas.  The kittens purred as soon as she started washing them!

1.10.07 - The kittens are now so fat that they roll on to their backs and struggle to get the right way up again, with their little legs waving about in the air.  They can just about manage it:-)))

5.10.07 - There are huge weight gains in the kittens and they're developing very quickly.  The difference at a day old, to four days old is amazing.

8.10.07 - Carly has opened one eye:-))))

12.10.07 - The kittens have all opened their eyes to some degree now.  Some more fully than others.  They are moving around a lot more now and trying to push themselves up with their front legs, to sit like older kittens.  They are very interested in our voices and look towards us when we talk to them, and they like being picked up and cuddled already.

Compare this picture with the one at the top which was taken one and a half weeks ago!  It's difficult to believe they can develop so much in one and a half weeks!  I wonder if, in another week, we'll see Jess under the pile of them:-)))  You can see how wonderfully chubby they are!

18.10.07 - Sorry we haven't updated for a few days but we had to change the password on our email account because something went wrong there, and then that affected the password on the programme we use to upload the site, but as you'll see, all is well.  Couldn't resist taking a quick picture (or two!) of the kittens this morning:

In four days the kittens have become very lively:-))))

We've only ever started trimming kittens claws at 3 weeks of age before, but these were so advanced, and their claws had grown along with the rest of them, that we had to do them at two weeks.  They'll be done every week now.  We change the fleece in the kitten pen every day and wipe out the base with antibacterial spray (one that is suitable for cats) and the kittens are enjoying wandering off the fleece now when it comes out on to the floor while we put the clean one in.  Today Carly rolled off the fleece as we gently pulled it out of the pen, and after she rolled on to the carpet she ran up to the fleece to catch up with it as it went slowly along the floor.  She looked very funny and we both had to laugh.

23.10.07 - The kittens are very sociable now and like to climb up on us when we sit down with them.  They enjoy exploring the bedroom.    They are taking interest in Jessica's food, giving it a good sniff, but haven't attempted to eat any yet.  They had their claws cut for the second time today.  The boys all whinged but Carly was very well behaved:-)))  The two blue boys are getting more and more alike, and where one was bigger than the other, they are both similar weights now.  They are all very big kittens.  Carly managed to climb out of the kitten pen with just the lower panel on it, so we've had to put the other panel on that brings the front up to the full height of the pen when we want to keep them in there.

25.10.07 - Today the kittens came out of our bedroom and have settled into the kitten room.  This has a mesh door on, with a Perspex screen, so they can see the other cats and what goes on in the household.  The kitten room in central in our home, so there is plenty of action going on.  Chester has started to play!  We noticed last night he was jumping on little areas of the fleece bedding, obviously using his imagination to pretend he was pouncing on something, and when they went into the kitten room he started to push a metallic scrunchy ball around, fascinated by the way it moved and the noise it made.  I'm looking forward to taking the photos this week because they've developed quite a lot since last week.

31.10.07 - The kittens are all playing with toys now, enjoying the ping pong balls and the scrunchy balls most of all.  They are starting to use the litter trays (Jessica is still cleaning their bottoms which instigates them weeing or pooing and it's unusual for them to start using trays before they're on solid food).  They aren't that interested in solid food yet because they are getting such lovely rich milk from Jessica but they'll get round to it in time:-)))  They are doing incredibly well and are really big for their ages.

2.11.07 - The kittens all posed nicely for their photos today and we just about managed to get one with them all in:

They all love playing with toys now and as well as the balls, love the little furry mice to toss about.  They are all using the litter tray to wee in already!

5.11.07 - Claude is eating roast chicken breast now!:-)))  He LOVES it:-))))  Carly is showing interest, so she'll be the next one to start on it, we'd guess.  All of the kittens can just about manage to climb to the top level in their plastic house now, which they are very pleased about.

6.11.07 - Last night Carly ate some of Jessica's cheese.  We give her a treat of a tiny amount of cheese every night (the calcium is good for mums) and Carly loved it.  Chester and Charles ate tiny amounts of Hilife Kitten food that I put on my fingers for them to lick off, too.

10.11.07 - I thought it would be lovely to get another picture of the kittens together, but didn't get a lot of co-operation:

When we were trying to take individual photos, one or two of the others would keep appearing alongside the one we were trying to get the photo of, but as soon as we wanted them all together they had other things to do and places to be:-)))

16.11.07 - The kittens are very much enjoying visits from their new owners.  They are enjoying eating Hilife (the kittens, not the owners) and love playing in the lounge.  We are beginning to introduce them to the other cats now.

20.11.07 - I couldn't resist taking pics of the kittens playing with some of the other cats today:

Frodo loved to hide in the climber and reach out with his paws while Claude looked through the wrong hole for him:-))) They all had a very good time!:-)))

27.11.07 - The kittens are growing up so fast now.  They don't suckle from Jessica much at all now, but eat very well.  They seem to prefer Hilife Kitten Pouches to the dried food (Hills Kitten and Royal Canin Babycat) at the moment, but the dried is left down all the time for them to snack on when they want it, along with fresh water.  They are pretty used to the other cats now, but still slightly wary of Tiggie, who is huge - I think they are trying to decide if he's a cat, or what LOL!  He's such a gentle giant (he's a Maine Coon) and so sweet with them.  It's quite sad for us now, arranging things ready for their collection when they're 13 weeks old - a reminder that we'll be parting with them then.  We've got their registration slips back from the GCCF and are now contacting Hills and Royal Canin to get their kitten packs that we give owners.  Just before they go we insure them with Pet Plan for 6 weeks as well, and get all the paperwork ready, such as 'taking your kitten home' sheets with as much information as we can about looking after the kittens, and pedigree etc.

1.12.07 - We're slightly late with the pictures this week because Tiggy had to go in for an operation on his knee yesterday, but he's doing very well and we're hoping this will sort his knee (he had a form of luxating patella) permanently.  The kittens enjoyed their visit to the vet on Thursday and had their vaccinations and health checks.  The vet loved them and gave them lots of kisses:-)))   There were lots of 'ooh's and ahhhh's' from the nurses too as they came to see them:-))))  The kittens are so grown up now.  They leap onto the sofa in the lounge with ease and there's nowhere Jessica can get out of their way unless she goes into a different room now, which she does decide to do from time to time.  She's quite happy to leave some of the other cats babysitting while she has a break from them.

7.12.07 - We've just done the pictures of the kittens coming up to 10 weeks old.  Time is going much too fast for us.  They are so funny and sweet.  They want to be involved in what we're doing all the time, until they flake out and will seek a lap to sleep on.  They were very interested watching us put the Christmas decorations up yesterday.
